Frequently Asked Questions When It Comes to Landscape Construction & Outdoor Living Projects in San Diego

Nature’s Elements Landscaping is a trusted San Diego landscape design-build contractor. We’re excited to partner with you and truly appreciate the opportunity to bring your custom landscape construction vision to life. Whether your project includes paver installation, retaining walls, artificial turf, irrigation systems, outdoor lighting, concrete work, fencing, pergolas, or a complete backyard renovation, our goal is to deliver high-quality craftsmanship and a smooth construction experience from start to finish.

This welcome guide is designed to outline what to expect during your residential landscape construction project, answer common questions about outdoor remodeling, and ensure a seamless process as we transform your property into a beautiful and functional outdoor living space.

  • What are your Crew’s Start & Stop Times?

Our professional landscape construction crew typically begins the workday at 7:00 am, in accordance with San Diego construction regulations. While the team may not arrive onsite exactly at 7:00 am, they are often gathering tools, loading materials, or picking up supplies from local vendors beforehand to ensure efficient job site operations.

On concrete pour days, footing installations, or specialty hardscape installations, crews may begin as early as 6:00 am to allow proper setup, surface preparation, and protection of surrounding landscape areas. Work generally concludes around 3:30 pm with job site cleanup beginning around 3:00 p.m. so your property is left safe, organized, and secure at the end of each day.

As a licensed C-27 landscape contractor, we prioritize job site efficiency, safety, and respect for your neighborhood throughout your landscape build.

  • Do you work Weekends & Holidays?

Our landscape installation crews typically do not work on weekends or major holidays. However, certain phases of landscape construction—such as concrete pours, irrigation pressure testing, retaining wall backfill, or specialty outdoor living installations—may occasionally require Saturday scheduling to maintain proper curing times and project timelines.

If weekend work becomes necessary to keep your backyard renovation or outdoor construction project on schedule, you will be notified in advance.

  • How about Noise During Construction?

Landscape construction and hardscape installation naturally involve equipment and operational noise. This may include grading, excavation, compaction, saw cutting, drilling, jackhammering, or material delivery.

By law, construction activity is permitted beginning at 7:00 am We make every effort to minimize disruption by coordinating heavy equipment usage thoughtfully and being respectful of neighbors. If possible, we may sequence work to reduce early morning impact.

Please note that requests to modify the construction schedule or delay certain phases (such as excavation, demolition, or concrete cutting) may affect timelines and could result in additional labor or downtime costs.

  • What about Parking & Equipment Access?

Our crew will always respect neighborhood parking conditions while working on your residential landscape project. We aim to park as close to the property as possible to improve efficiency and reduce material transport time, while remaining considerate of surrounding homes.

Driveway access is often required as a staging area for:

  • Pavers and hardscape materials

  • Block and retaining wall materials

  • Artificial turf rolls

  • Irrigation pipe and drainage materials

  • Concrete, sand, gravel, and base rock

  • Landscape lighting components

To prevent accidental damage and ensure safe equipment access, we recommend keeping vehicles out of the driveway during active construction hours.

  • Will you need access to Utilities & Facilities?

Access to utilities is essential for landscape construction and outdoor remodeling projects.

Electrical Access:
Power is required to operate saws, drills, compactors, mixers, and other professional landscaping equipment. If exterior outlets are unavailable, extension cords may be routed appropriately depending on job layout.

Water Access:
Water is necessary for concrete mixing, dust control, irrigation installation, compaction, plant establishment, and overall site preparation.

For projects lasting more than two days—especially larger backyard renovation, hardscape, or retaining wall builds—a portable restroom may be delivered onsite to maintain cleanliness and efficiency.

For safety and professionalism, alcohol is strictly prohibited on all Nature’s Elements Landscaping job sites.

  • How do I prepare the Work Area?

Landscape construction, grading, and outdoor renovation projects can be more active and disruptive than normal daily property conditions. To protect your belongings and help maintain efficiency, we strongly recommend removing:

  • Patio furniture

  • Planters and décor

  • Grills and outdoor kitchens (if applicable)

  • Potted plants

  • Vehicles near access areas

  • Fragile items near work zones

This is especially important during paver installation, demolition, excavation, retaining wall construction, and concrete work.

If you need assistance preparing your outdoor space for construction, please let us know in advance. We’re happy to coordinate solutions to ensure your property is protected.

  • What about my Pets & Children during the construction process?

For safety during landscape construction, we strongly recommend securing pets away from active work zones. Equipment noise, excavation, and unfamiliar activity can be stressful for animals.

If pets remain indoors during work hours, leaving a radio or white noise on may help reduce stress.

Children should also remain clear of all construction areas. During backyard renovations, there may be:

  • Open trenches

  • Excavated soil

  • Gravel base preparation

  • Uncured concrete

  • Retaining wall footings

  • Tools and materials staged throughout the property

Safety is always our top priority.

  • Do the crews do Daily Cleanup & Debris Management?

Our landscape construction crews clean continuously throughout the day and strive to maintain an organized and professional job site. Construction debris—including soil, rock, concrete remnants, packaging, and demolition materials—will be staged neatly for removal.

Please do not add household trash or unrelated items to construction debris piles. Mixing materials can increase disposal fees and may result in additional handling charges.

At Nature’s Elements Landscaping, we believe a clean job site reflects quality craftsmanship and professional project management.

  • How about Job Site Safety?

Safety is a top priority on every residential landscape construction project. Only authorized personnel should enter active work areas.

During landscape installation, hardscape construction, irrigation trenching, retaining wall builds, or outdoor living installations, the job site may include:

  • Uneven grading

  • Open excavations

  • Exposed utilities

  • Gravel and base materials

  • Power equipment in operation

If you require access through a work zone or are expecting guests during construction, please notify us in advance so we can coordinate safe passage and minimize risk.

Yes. For projects requiring permits—such as retaining walls over certain heights, structural concrete, or drainage systems—we coordinate the permitting process in accordance with City of San Diego building standards and engineering requirements.

We are familiar with local construction bulletins, footing requirements, rebar specifications, and drainage regulations to ensure your project is built to code.

Project timelines vary depending on scope, materials, and site conditions. A small paver patio may take a few days, while a full landscape renovation—including grading, retaining walls, irrigation, lighting, and planting—may take several weeks.

We provide a projected timeline before construction begins and communicate throughout the project to keep expectations clear.
