This year Nature's Elements was entered in to a landscape contest by the homeowner for the City of San Diego. We had created this landscape 3 years ago and it still holds up. When creating this landscape we focused on the homes architectural style. We also paid close attention to the homeowners interior design details. Keeping all this in mind we extended their living spaces to the outdoors, while maintaining an environment that would be eco-friendly and waterwise. The colors and textures were also inspired by the home owners interior. This landscape uses microdrip irrigation, decomposed granite materials and hits of rock material for texture. The large boulders are made out of a concrete caste product. The walls were just an added accent to bring the home further out into the landscape. The small stucco walls and columns with split fence railing keeps this landscape open and inviting. The irrigation system is a combination of drip micro irrigation and sprayers. The plants and stone pathways were designed to create energy and movement throughout the landscape.

Appropriate plant selection:
California-friendly plant palette; functional turf; functional landscape, meets needs of owners
Design:
energy efficient use of tree canopy, permeable ground cover, shady and sunny areas in landscape; firewise landscape, as needed
Appropriate maintenance:
mulch; weeds kept to a minimum; plants neat, tidy and attractive
Efficient methods of irrigation:
designed to reduce runoff; appropriate irrigation equipment for plant material; water consumption appropriate to area
