Q & A
How effective is a drip irrigation system Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

A drip system is one of the best ways to water.  It allows you to release water at a slower rate giving the plant a chance to soak it in. This type of irrigation encourages roots to go deep into the soil.  It keeps the plants from drying out sooner.  You will also save money in the long run.

I currently have spray heads in my planters. Is that and efficient way to water? Print E-mail

Spray heads are not as effective.  Water will not get to all the plants.  It  can also cause damage to your home's exterior.  While spray heads are commonly found in many landscapes, they are not the best way to water.

Once  plants  grow they can  start cover the spray heads.  This prevents other plants from getting water.  It will make you rely more on saturation than actual effective watering.  Drip irrigation is best for plants.

Do I need to have a irrigation system for drought tolerant plants? Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

Drought tolerant landscapes do not need as much water once established.  When plants are first installed they do require frequent watering.  Hand watering is not the most effective way to water a yard.  Most people do not have the time or patience to water deeply. Water evaporation  is more likely with surface or hand watering.  An irrigation system allows you to program longer watering times and more consistent schedules.

How can you tell if I'm over watering or under watering? Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

In most cases if a plant is getting too much water it can drop its leaves.  The same thing happens when it does not get enough water .  The difference is that when it is over watered the leaves are soft and limp.

Under watering makes the leaves are crispy and brittle.  Remember if you over water you will kill you plants just as fast as if you don't give them enough water.

Keep in mind when planning your garden to group like plants together.  Plants that have different watering needs will not thrive in the same area.  Different parts of your property have different soil types and require and appropriate water levels.

My lawn has many different weeds and clover. How can I get rid of it? Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

There are many products that can be used to remove it from your lawn.  You need to address the issue before it gets out of hand. Some weeds can be brought or carried from other lawns that have weeds.

Equipment or lawn mowers should be cleaned if it is used in multiple properties that have weed issues,  to insure no cross contamination.  Mow and blow companies don't pay attention to detail.

What is lawn aeration and its it really necessary? Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

Lawn Aeration is a process that allows water, nutrients and oxygen to reach the root system.  It reduces the thatch that build up that prevents water from  penetrating.  When we do this for our customers, we add fertilizer application and soil conditioner to the soil. The benefits include  water reduction and a healthy lawn.
